hey, jellyfish fans...

it's been mentioned in passing on this list, but i've got to reiterate:
there are new songs available from roger joseph manning, jr., one of the
geniuses behind the late, great jellyfish.

roger now has a solo album, which has been described as "jellyfish's
third album that never was." i wouldn't go quite that far, but it's
damn close. it's called "solid state warrior" and it is not available
as a cd. it's only available as a "weed file," which is a .wma file you
can download and listen to 3 times, for free, using windows media
player. after that, you pay $1.25 or $1.50 per track...but only for the
tracks you like. here's the link:

plus... the same site carries demos and unreleased songs from imperial
drag, roger manning's solo project immediately after jellyfish broke up.
now, their 1996 self-titled cd did absolutely nothing for me. if you
agree, don't let that stop you from downloading their demos for songs
that DIDN'T make that album. it's now apparent they left the best stuff
OFF the cd. why? who knows? but some of these tunes are deliciously
jellyfishy... quite excellent! here's that link:

here's what i do: i download and listen, buy only the tracks i like.
they are saved as .wma files, which incorporate "digital rights
management" ("DRM"), meaning you're limited in how many times you can
copy them.

so... to defeat that, i use windows media player to create an "audio cd"
of the songs, which will play in any cd player. then i import that
"audio cd" back into my computer as mp3 files (using i-tunes... or any
other mp3 ripping program), which eliminates the DRM. then you can use
the files however you want, put them on ipod, copy them as much as you
need to.

sounds like a hassle, but these two albums are worth it!

yours in a newly-discovered cacophonic cocoon of jelly,

ned
