Stephen,
What a great songwriter! Not just "Lonesome Town," (Ricky's "Heartbreak Hotel" anyone?), but "The Wonder Of You" (Elvis did a great version & recorded Live to boot IMHO) and Dean Martin's "Somewhere There's A Someone" (which was in constant rotation in my household as a kid. Mom LOVED her Dino!)
Anyway, several years ago I was playing at a tribute to Ricky Nelson @ the Troubadour. Ronnie Mack used to do them annually out here. I met Jerry Fuller, who wrote a lot of great Ricky tunes (ie. "It's Up To You"). We started talking about the Brunette Brothers and Baker Knight. I mentioned to Jerry that after Ricky died, Dylan was doing "Lonesome Town" in his sets. He smiled & told me that was one of Baker's proudest moments. Kind of like Dylan felt after Elvis recorded his Tomorrow's A Long Time.
Sorry to ramble on. Thought some of you might be interested.
