Re Popdude's warning:
I second that emotion. Having attended more than 100 club shows in L.A. this year and some 115 last year, TGT is one of the two most cringeworthy outfits I've witnessed. The other, even bigger, trainwreck is band that, tragically, goes by the name Bronson. And they don't even have good merch.
Re Listening matter and disappointments:
Don't know how I forgot the great Nada Surf album; it's a gem. Their show with the very cool Say Hi To Your Mom tomorrow night at the El Rey figures to be pretty spiffy.
Also disappointed by:
The new Grandaddy album.
Stewart is spot-on in recommending Feist -- she has a singular voice, sultry and jazzy -- and Metric (though the second album seems to be more style than substance)
