Hi Auditeers--Bart Mendoza of the Shambles (who were slated to be the
opening act) informed me that the Raspberries cancelled the San Diego show
(Oct. 22) because they couldn't be guaranteed a sellout.
That's all well and good if they had decided to call it off two or three
days ago. But the fact that they cancelled the date nearly three weeks ago
(October 6, to be exact) strikes me as a tad premature. What could have been
done to boost sales in the last few weeks? Perhaps radio interviews (like
Steve Jones) or newspaper features. I'm sure the gig at LA will be
wonderful....we in the bordertown will only sigh this Saturday on what might
have been.
Steve Thorn (A Raspberries fan currently tasting bitter fruit. But as a
baseball fan, I'm absolutely ecstatic that Houston and the Chicago White Sox
are in the fall classic!!
