I actually booked them in my Boston Pop Underground series over the summer
(before anyone had really heard of them, I think) and was blown away. Since
then, I've been gratified to hear them in Starbucks (on a Hear music
sampler, a notoriously hard placement to score) and on WOXY, and to see them
reviewed positively in Venuszine, Paste (the most recent issue) and the
Boston Globe after an opening slot last weekend with Stellastarr.
I became aware of them about a year ago and actually wanted to sign them,
but I wasn't fast enough -- Bar/None got to them first and is certainly
doing a fine job with them.
I also hear a lot of Pavement in their influences, and I'd add Spoon and the
Talking Heads. There are six band members and two lead singers -- one's a
ringer for Malkmus and the other sounds a lot like David Byrne.
My personal favorite track is "Direct To Helmet" -- it's the one that's in
rotation on WOXY. Definitely, definitely check it out.
