I think a lot of times the tongue-in-cheek thing is projected on the cover
by the listener. I've covered nearly all the "questionable" hits I loved in
grade school and I've always done it 'cause I love the song, from "Indiana
Wants Me" to "Dizzy" to "Billy Don't Be A Hero." It's just a different kind
of love than my love of the Kinks or the Beatles. But that doesn't make it
tongue in cheek. Now, if I covered "Afternoon Delight," I would be making
fun of that.
