<You know, I had to go back and listen to it again today...it's pretty
much my least favourite of Otis Blackwell's Elvis songs (but there
aren't any bad ones: Don't be cruel, All shook up, Return to
sender...and that's just for Elvis! He also wrote (or co-wrote)
Fever, Breathless, Handy Man, Great Balls of Fire...), but I think
it's mostly due to the performance rather than the song. It feels, I
don't know, kinda sluggish. Its soul base seems to cry out for more
of a late-sixties, Chips Moman-produced approach, which it didn't get
in 1962. Have you heard Blackwell's unreleased until recently "I'm a
Roustabout"? Nice work. All IMHO as well, of course.>
Hey Richard,
I agree, not my fav Otis tune, but I just love E's phrasing on that one. I also went back listened to CD of Pot Luck yesterday. "Kiss Me Quick" really moves me now. Wasn't such a fan it before. Goes to show how tastes do change. Yes, I love that version of Roustabout.
<"One Broken Heart for Sale"? Oh, I'm definitely with you on that one.
"who wants to buy a heart..." "Happy Ending" is another favourite from "It Happened..." I also have a weak spot for "They Remind me to much of you", and "how would you like to be" though I haven't heard them in eons.
Happy Ending! Another great phrasing tune. It still makes me smile. As does "Beyond The Bend." His voice was just amazing!
<Thanks for the flashbacks, Barry!>
Thanks Richard & Steven. That was fun.

PS. I did a cover of "Tender Feeling" from Kissin' Cousins on my Jesse Garon Project CD.
