Hi Audities

I've just joined the list after reading digests for a while through a friend here in Australia (hi Mike). It looks like a good place to be and i look forward to learning about lots of great music out there. I'm a huge fan of the independant labels out there. Places like Not Lame, Pop Boomerang, Jam and Tall Boy (to name just a few) do such a great job of getting the music out there. I haven't really seen much discussion lately about these small labels. I would expect they'd need as much help as possible with getting the word out there, and i'm keen to hear what people think of some of the label releases by these labels. I assume people on this list are still buying these records.

I'll get started though by saying that i think anytime CvS releases an album that it's a time for celebration. And while i don't think his new album is his best, it's still an excellent record, and in particular the story in the liner notes is an excellent bit of background whilst soaking up the great music on the album. I just heard the John Hoskinson album as well, and it's every bit as good as expected. Excellent writing and performances, with enough sounds and flavours to make it feel familiar whilst feeling very much like a contemporary album. And after being initially skeptical about Michael Carpenter's Supahip, i now think it may be one of my favourite things of his, if not my favourite. It sounds like him and Mark Moldre were having a great time with it. It's not as initially straight pop as i expected from Michael, but after a few listens it certainly has his stamp on it. Great accessible tunes that sneak up on you and an exciting and surprising new chapter for him.

There's so much great music out there that people don't seem to be noticing. I look forward to hopefully making a few people aware of a few things that may not have gotten much Audities airtime in the past. For example, an Australian band called Lazy Susan are a band that i think many on the list would love. And Youthgroup are right on the verge in the US now, having just scored a deal with Epitaph. Big things ahead for them for sure.

That's enough for my first post i think. Don't wanna wear out my welcome.

Adam
