You'll have to seek out the Carlene Carter album Musical Shapes. Rockpile
supplies the backing... it's on a cd with Blue Nun, both well worth owning.
The Nick Lowe comp, Wilderness Years has a lot of odd singles and unreleased
stuff. Highlights are Keep It Outta Sight, (which does have Terry and Dave) and
Truth Drug, one of my fave songs of his.
As For What's So Funny; there is of course the Brinsley's version. There is
also a nice live recording with Noise To Go. It's part of the "My Heart Hurts"
double 45.
I think there used to be a few Rockpile boots, the King Biscuit which has Keith
Richards comes to mind. There really should be a proper live album. The BBC
tracks on the Seconds Of Pleasure reissue are just a tease.
Live Stiff's has a couple of tracks, doesn't it?
Billy sang a lot of stuff, particularly live. He did Trouble Boys and Goodbye
Mr Nice Guy when I saw them in '78.
As for Dave, everything up through Twangin' is really great. There should be an
EMI double cd that has his solo album Rockpile, Love Sculpture and singles.
Very good. I believe Subtle As A Flying Mallet is mostly a one man band thing.
the two live tracks are with Brinslys backing... Then there is the string of
albums on Swan Song, everyone a killer. I've had trouble finding Repeat When
Necessary on cd, but I've got 'em all on vinyl.
Dave's early productions are worth searching for too. Of course the Groovies,
but to that add things like Pete Duton, Shakin Stevens, Deke Leonard, Man,
Brinsleys, Del Shannon etc...
You must read Deke Leonard's book Rhino Winos and Lunatics for some great
Edmunds stories. Having witnessed at least one, I can say that he's not making
it up.
I had the pleasure of going to Rockfield back in '75. Dave Charles told a few
good tales of Edmunds too....
We did a very funny interview with Nick for KSAN. We were falling on the floor
laughing the whole time. He was out of his brain, and had a gallon of cheap red
wine and a cheap date... oooh weeee
those were the days.
