I've been taking a break from new music for a while now, and concentrating
on revisiting old faves. Typically, I'm looking for the CD versions of the
vinyl I own and never play (haven't had my turntable on more than twice in
the past ten years, I'd say...).

My current obsessions are early to mid period XTC and Kate Bush... and this
week, at the other end of the spectrum - Nick Lowe, Dave Edmunds, and
Rockpile. (I suppose I'll be getting to Graham Parker before you know it!)

I know that Rockpile only officially released "Seconds of Pleasure", which I
remember as a great slab o vinyl, and am soon to purchase on CD. Classic
songwriting, tremendous harmonies, perfect production, highly spirited
performances - it's all there. (I just read that Billy Bremner sang lead on
"Heart", one of my faves on the LP - which is a shock, I always thought it
was Edmunds?!?)

So, did Rockpile put out anything else in any form? I seem to remember they
were on a Stiff sampler at one point - a live version of "I Knew The Bride",
if I recall. What about unofficial releases - bootlegs, etc?

I am also really digging "Basher/The Best Of Nick Lowe". I have "Pure Pop
For Now People" and "Labour of Lust" on vinyl, and plan to get on CD. Any
other recommendations for solo Lowe? There are some great tunes on the comp
CD - Rose of England, 7 xxx to Rock (something like that), Maureen, several
others.

And did Nick ever record his own version of "Peace Love and Understanding"?

What about Dave Edmunds? I recently picked up his anthology, and was
pleasantly surprised. I always thought of him as Nick's lesser half, but am
rethinking that to some extent. Well, Nick's still the better writer, but
Dave seems to be his equal as a singer, arranger and interpreter, and he's
not too shabby on that guitar either! Any suggestions on albums to hunt
down?

What I'm especially interested in for both Lowe and Edmunds are albums where
they back each other up. I've heard that some of their solo albums are
basically Lowe or Edmunds with Rockpile as the backing band.

As always, your input is appreciated!!

Dave
