Friends -

The rumours are true; and yep, really, really sad.

After seven years, three albums, a clutch of singles and compilation
tracks, and a good many international concert engagements, The Bigger
Lovers are calling it a day. But not before we make one last bit of
racket in the form of a farewell show dubbed: "Thank you. Good night.
T-shirts and records in the foyer. Don't let the door hit your ass on
the way out. Get home safely."

This snappily-titled farewell show will happen SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 5,
9:00 PM, at Indre Recording Studios (1418 S. Darien St., which is off
of Reed St. between 8th and 9th in South Philly). Our pals New Radiant
Storm King will open. Free beer will be served. Admission is 10 U.S.
Dollars. There will be no advance ticket sales. There will be no guest
list. There will be no bands that cover more than one Soft Boys song
still standing after this special night. There will be no more Bigger
Lovers shows after this.

Do expect:

* A full-length set.
* All your Bigger Lovers faves, and the choice covers played with some
degree of competency (we might even honor a request or two).
* Relative sobriety on our part.

Don't expect:

* Teary goodbyes.
* Hugs
* A "we lost our lease so everything must go, go, go!!!" sale at the
merch table. It'll be full price, baby. We got debts to square.

In the interest of brevity, we'll keep the reason for the split as
succinct as possible. It just seems like a good time to end it and keep
friendships and integrity intact. Too cryptic for ya? Well, check in on
the site (www.thebiggerlovers.com) in the days leading up to the show
and maybe one of us will elaborate.

Which reminds us... visit the site (you can also check in on us at My
Space - www.myspace.com/thebiggerlovers) early and often in the days
leading up to the show. We'll have dusty archival material (hey: if
you're holding any photos, flyers, posters, press clips, set lists,
recordings, or socks we left in your microwave... anything, please send
'em along), important show details, and info on a very special,
potentially scintillating lodging exchange program for you
out-of-towners who are no doubt gonna drop everything and shake it on
down with us here in Philly on Nov. 5th.

As for immediate future doings? Well, some things will stay the same:
Pat (-rick Berkery, drums) will still man the drum kit for the Pernice
Brothers, who have just completed a 3-month tour in support of their
latest album, Discover a Lovelier You. The rest of the Lovers will be
returning to the womb: Bret took his first drumming gig in nearly a
decade and is playing shows with Philadelphia's B.C. Camplight, who
have a new record out (Hide, Run Away) on One Little Indian; Ed
(Hogarty, lead guitar) is currently gearing up for a reunion of sorts
with his ex-wife, Lefty's Deceiver, who are planning some shows for
this fall; and Scott (Jefferson, bass/vocals) is resuscitating the
Diane Linkletter Experience moniker and continuing to record and
perform, mainly as an excuse to create quirky flyers.

Some things remain unclear. We'd completed work on six new tracks in
the spring; some pretty amazing stuff, really. There's a good chance
said songs will turn up in some form, somewhere, at some point, maybe.

But that's for later. For now, our main focus is arguing over the set
list. And whether or not to finally let Pat do a drum solo.

Don't cry for us, Philadelphia...
