Hey....you could be me and have never heard Big Star until last year. I
believe this conversation made the rounds on this list some time back. While
visiting my business partner in Cape Cod last March I noticed he had "#1
Record" in his collection and asked if I could hear it because I didn't know
the material or understood the context of who they were in the rock and roll
mythos particularly when spoken about in such reverence on this list. He put
the album on and I listened to the whole thing to the very end. I wasn't
blown away by it so much as annoyed that Cheap Trick had stolen everything
from them.
Kudos to Big Star....they should really have gotten bigger recognition for
inspiring an act like CT. Now I can see why the Alex Chilton theme song on
"That '70s Show" is now done by CT. No doubt an homage to their mentors.
