In my recent mid year top list I had Sylvie Lewis "Tangos and Tantrums" as
#1 by a mile. That has not changed. But due to a recent clip at the Not Lame
site ,I have latched on to another gem that is similar. It is listed as a
2004 release so it would not qualify for top lists, but it would be
there.Lauren Agnelli's "Love always follows me" is jazz/caberet beauty with
a strong sense of pop.She has an interestimg voice. Some would perhaps not
catch on to it.She had me at "I'm confessin' " the first track and a
standard. She did compose most of the other songs. She didn't write my
favorite,"Ballad of the Ladies Man",but she did my other 2 faves, the title
song and "Love's Afterglow".But the entire album sizzles with a noir quality
that I can't get enough of.This is a great album! Not for everyone, but if
you like enchanting female voices with a bit of an edge, try this one on.I
love it to pieces. Terrific liner noted by the chanteuse , an endorsement
from author Frank McCourt, and some divine melodies sung in a beguiling way
.I love her madly.Hope I steer someone else her way.

   Gene
