On Paul's last tour (Driving USA), my wife and I went to see him at the MCI Center in D.C. along with my wife's sister and brother-in-law, and their two kids - my nephew (age 12) and niece (age 10). This was the first "concert experience" for these two youngsters.

As you all know, there were tons of Beatles songs in that show, and my wife and I were thrilled to see our niece and nephew singing and dancing joyfully to the songs they have grown to love over the last few years. We'll never forget this special event that we shared together. They still talk about that show occasionally, and how much they loved it. At every show that Paul performs, there are hundreds of kids just like these two, and there is no better musical influence on earth than The Beatles, even when their songs are performed by just a single ex-member.

Do I wish that Paul had done more Wings songs? You bet!! I made a compilation CD of Wings tunes a couple of years ago, and I enjoy it as much as (actually more than) any Beatles album, since I grew up with Wings. Unfortunately, I never had the pleasure of seeing Wings in concert, and wish I could have been at a Wings Over America show. I loved that triple album when I was 12 years old, and I treasure the CD version these days.

Anyway... the Driving USA show wasn't just a set of Beatles covers - Paul played some of my all time fave Wings songs like Live & Let Die, My Love, and Maybe I'm Amazed (chills). I'm really glad he played those tunes, and The Beatles songs he covered (though I really could do without Hey Jude). I haven't paid much attention to his solo stuff since Tug of War, so I didn't care that I didn't hear more of it.

I can appreciate that some people wish Paul would play more of his post-Beatles material, but I can't share their disappointment that he's playing so many Beatles songs instead. Just my $0.02.

Be seeing you,
Bill
