(removing foot from mouth) Umm... Stewart, guess I should have said none of
us would ever write a song as good as Stroke It Noel. I didn't mean to send
that barb directly at you.
As for me writing a song as good as the ones you mention - I dunno, you're
probably right. I don't particularly rate myself as that great of a lyricist
anyway. I do play guitar fairly well. And I've done Hey Little Child in my
rare live sets ever since I bought Like Flies On Sherbert (which is imho a
masterpiece and as much fun for me as anything by Big Star).
I actually know Chilton pretty well and I know his feelings about Big Star's
legacy. He's more than a bit bemused by the awe we wimpy pop fans have for
their ouvre.
