I've watched Dig about 5 times already and am amazed that all I've ever
seen Joel Gion from the Brian Jonestown Massacre do onstage was play
tambourine. There was usually a mic in front of him, but don't think I
ever saw him sing once. I wondered too how much that dude could ever
have made from pulling a Tracey Partridge. However, the guy is
completely charismatic and pretty much stole the movie.

Several years ago, I saw the American Analog Set (who have a pretty
good new album out on Arts and Crafts) opening for...some one of the
Elephant 6 bands, I believe. They had a guy who usually only played a
few measures per song, on anything from guitar to keyboards to a
cymbal that he played with a bow. The rest of the time, he just stood
there. No backing vocals, no percussion, nothing. I always thought
that was admirably ballsy.
