Seems like I post here rarely these days, and even less often to shout about something I feel utterly compelled to recommend, but here I am and that I MUST do. Over the last couple days I've been UTTERLY under the spell of what will certainly be my favorite pop album for 2005, Bill Ricchini's "Tonight I Burn Brightly"

I can't do what many here do so well (Mike Bennett, Stewart Mason) and turn the phrase that delivers the flavor of this gorgeous album in a nutshell. I'll tell you I hear a LOT of influences that will be near and dear to this group: Village Green era Kinks, Stephen Merritt, Josh Rouse, Beach Boys (more Friends era, I would venture), Todd Rundgren, Bacharach, Neil Finn, Elliott Smith, Ron Sexsmith. Yeah, I know that sounds like a tall bill of goods. It's that good.

Don't take my word for it. Hear Bill at his website or on myspace,

Has anyone else heard this album yet? What about his previous one (I think there were a couple postings a few years back)? I'd be curious to know if it's as good as this.
