I suspect that there are some of you that have the "Listen, Listen: The Best
of Emitt Rhodes" comp that are wondering if it is necessary to get the new
Merry-Go-Round comp, "Listen, Listen: The Definitive Collection". I say
"Yes, Yes: You Fool". Virtually all of the deep cuts from the
Merry-Go-Round album (and Emitt's first solo album) that are presented on
this collection are absolutely stellar pop. Granted we're talking about a
limited number of songs, but I would say that the Merry-Go-Round/Emitt
Rhodes output in the 60's rivals only the Beatles in terms of a great songs:
total songs ratio.
Does anybody know if Paul McCartney has ever heard Emitt's music? I'd be
surprised if Paul was not completely floored by the masterful way Emitt
emulated him.
