Pat Gilbert is a very good friend of mine and I can assure you that these words were not tongue-in-cheek.
By the way, any fans of The Clash should check out Pat's biography of the band. Pat is good friends with Mick Jones and many members of the band's entourage. It's a superb read.

Not to counter anything you just wrote , because I haven't heard it yet, but
the Mojo review really praises it.Only 4 stars, in adverse to their coveted
5,but it is what is written that interests. The reviewer, Pat Gilbert, claims
that in 20 years two names will come up when discussing the "really cool
bands" of this era." the two names that'll come up are, I'll wager,
Supergrass and Super Furry Animals. From the mists of time, their music will
appear more original and weird and pertinent to their era than any other."
Could be British tongue in cheek. But he does go on to praise the album as a
"real grower".Michael's comment made me think of this.
