4 shows of note for those in the NYC area -
Tonight, at The Living Room. At 7pm, B.C. Camplight. Piano based pop, not
disimilar to Jellyfish, Ben Folds, or Jon Brion, although they definately
put their own spin on it. Really really good. I've seen them twice, and I
love them more each time! They're album is great as well. (Thanks Beth for
introducing them to me! They rock, and so do you!)
Stick around at The Living Room tonight, for the 9pm show. Mike Viola puts
his own spin on the singer-songwriter genre, probably coving some random 70s
song(s), and playing some powerpop favorites off of his previous album.
Tuesday night, a great band called The King of France plays their unique
mixture of powerpop, indie rock, piano rock, and lo-fi indie at The Mercury
Lounge on Tuesday at 9:30. Their music reminds me of a more lo-fi Ben Folds,
mixed with a little Elvis Costello, Guided By Voices, Joe Jackson, and
bizarrely, they even remind me of Belle and Sebastian from time to time!
Wednesday night at the Lakeside Lounge, The Pillcrushes, one of my new
favorites, featuring a friend/co-worker of mine, Greg Beshers, will be
playing at 10pm. They play Americana Indie Pop. Just a hint of alt-country
with fantastic pop sensibilities. They are seriously one of my new
favorites! I highly recommend you check them out. If you want to hear what
they sound like, let me know, I'd be happy to send you a sample of their
music (and I have Greg's blessing to do so).
I will definately be at The Living Room tonight and unless something
unforeseeable happens, I'll be at The Lakeside Lounge on Wednesday. I'd be
there on Tuesday, however my wallet is a little too thin, so I have to stick
to free shows for now. But please, go on without me! :)
