This is probably my final announcement about the show I'm throwing at The Derby here in Los Angeles tomorrow, Wed. Aug. 24th. It's a line up I'm REALLY excited about, so I hope y'all can make it out!

Things start off at 8:30 with John Hoskinson performing with a little help from Brian Whelan on the keys. This will be really cool. Hopefully most of you already know and love John.

Next up is fifteengrand, a little band I found through Joel Martin, a really great musician in his own right. I followed a link to their MySpace page in an email Joel sent and the hairs on the back of my neck stood up. THIS is really the top cream of the crop goodness of pop music.
their influences alone...
The Beatles, The Kinks, XTC, The Beach Boys, Elvis Costello, Cheap Trick, The Pixies, Jellyfish, Jon Brion, The Jayhawks, Led Zepplin, Guided By Voices, Badly Drawn Boy, Aimee Mann, The Pretenders, The Posies. There's more, but you get the idea.

Just go. Go and listen. Even if you aren't in L.A. and you can't attend...check these 4 songs out for a taste.

THEN, The World Record comes out and does their label..uh...me... proud...another list of influences that might make you wet yourself a little.
Sloan, The Cars, Blue Oyster Cult, AC Newman, Randy Newman, Brendan Benson, Fleetwood Mac, Michael Penn, XTC, Squeeze, Rick Springfield, Big Star, Quasi, Genesis, The Kinks Beatles Zombies Small Faces, Your Band, The Band, Band of the Hand, ZZ Top.

And to top it all off...The Brokedown. Maybe you read Jeff Shelton's capsule review, maybe you have already heard them on the radio, maybe you read the article in the LA Times. Maybe you will be swayed by the fact that Will, their 23 year old keyboardist/sometime bassist, was at my house over the weekend and he reverently bowed before my Monkees Shrine because he's one of the biggest power pop geeks I've met outside of this list. And ladies...this is one hot band.

I really want to see you tomorrow night. scrape together $7.00 in couch change and meet me at The Derby for some good music.
