Since you asked, Beth, Friday night's show was really wonderful. It was my first time seeing Jim Boggia, and I was knocked out by his writing, singing, and (perhaps most of all) guitar playing. Really nice fellow, too. He closed with a stunning version of "She's Leaving Home", and worked versions of "Live and Let Die" and the "Toys R Us" theme into his set, along with a bunch of songs from his latest record. "Where's the Party?" stood out in particular, but had I known the songs ahead of time, it might have been a different story.
It was also my first time catching the Mike and Todd show. They played a ton of stuff from the Blue Thumb album, as well as "Let's Have A Baby" and "What to Do With Michael" from "Hang On Mike". They also invited a few guests up (a female vocalist and saxophonist/flautist whose names I have mentally misplaced) for versions of "Love Hurts", the Carpenters' "Close To You", and "Dirty Work" (yes, that "Dirty Work"). Off the record, Mike remarked that the unreleased Blue Thumb record might actually see release at some point in the next little while. Keep your fingers crossed.
and that's that.
jb, who should be practicing right now for tomorrow's philly show...
