And, although the article itself wasn't bad, how appropriate that it appeared within the generally spotty output of *Rolling Stone*.

Almost any new material released by Big Star Mark II will be considered a letdown -- not just because of the intimidating standard set by the band's earlier incarnation, but because the post-*Frosting* Posies have become almost as erratic and prone to disappointing their fans (Ken Stringfellow's generally solid solo work notwithstanding) as has Chilton. As far as I'm concerned, Larry's just confirming the inevitable here.

Problem is, when you put the Big Star moniker on something it practically demands to be judged at a high level, particularly since the two "new" guys in the band were the creative heart of a band that was no slouch itself back in the day.
