<< I can understand Dave Clark not wanting to show up in person - someone
might ask

him to play drums (!), but seeing as how Dave has almost as much money as God,

y'think he'da sent a video greeting or something?

And the rest of the guys are still around - some still playing music. Wonder
if

any of them were contacted? >>

From what I've been able to glean from various sources
(alas, my membership in the Worldwide Dave Clark Appreciation Society
expired about a decade ago ....as did the Society itself, I believe)
Dave remains somewhat, um, estranged from his former Five.

Could have something to do with finances, I'd wager
(Dave, an ultra-astute biznessman, has ever since 64 solely controlled the
band's name, masters, management, publishing, copyrights, etc. etc.,
and has routinely turned down seriously lucrative offers to regroup and tour
...MUCH to the chagrin of his ex-bandmates, of course,
who I bet would certainly appreciate the $$$ )

In fact, the only reason that only DC5 CD came out at all, briefly, in the
early Nineties
was because Dave was helping negotiate, on behalf of his recently-departed
close pal Freddie Mercury, for some sort of Queen re-issue, and as part of the
deal insisted Hollywood Records (I believe it was in the USA) release the DC5
package as well.

Sadly, rumor has it DC5 guitarist Lenny Davidson was all set to tour the US
alongside Mike Smith again a couple'a years ago. But then the accident
occurred.

Dave's an interesting guy, indeed ....and from the sounds of a
vintage-Sixties live recording of the Five I have, he actually COULD play drums. And not
badly at all to boot ...though he seemed to rely a wee bit much on the ol' snare
to my ears ;-)
He's not playing on all the records of course (ie: listen to that spiffy
hi-hat work on "Having A Wild Weekend"). But then again, neither was Denny Wilson,

Gary "and P.S., Mark: unless I'm mistaken, Billy J. Kramer still lives in
-- or is that on? -- Long Island, NY, so he needn't have trekked all the way
from Liddypool after all to pay tribute to Mike .....plus I heard Peter &
Gordon basically stole the show. True?" Pig
