here's a thread of an idea that has always alternately confounded and
pleased me, and that is the 'Recommended if you like" and "word of
mouth review" references.....and this is just my opinion clearly, but
it seems I can read things in Uncut and Mojo and online and Audities
about an artist, and their influences, name checks, etc, and only to
spend good money and end up....well, disappointed?
One such recent release is the Magic Numbers cd...i'd read so many
glowing things about them, talking about the Raspberries, and pure pop,
etc., WANTING to love them,, but the cd in reality, to me, is very low
energy, tho pretty, but never really.......hmmm, well, takes off? Now I
know that is partly my own personal tastes, but it seemed like
everything should be in position for a WOW release, but I felt
very....let down is the phrase I guess......
It just seems to cynical old me that the hyperbole and promotion
machine starts to get going and it's easy for a pop sucker like me to
get sucked in....
that said, I am REALLY interested in how the NEON full length one turns
out.......
am i alone on this?
