Freur (who had the hit "Doot Doot")later transformed into Underworld. They
had excellent tunes on their mid-80s releases - Underneath the Radar and
Change the Weather...

I saw both of those tours and they were amazed I knew about Freur. Freur had
the great new wave song.

I was in a band called Craving Grace... My first band was The UltraViolet
Catastrophe (synth pop, 1983).

Punk was a hotbed of great band names: Snivelling Sh*ts, Desparate Bicycles
(who also had a cracking song title - "The Medium was Tedium"), Ed Banger
and the Nosebleeds. I can remember a band supporting the Cure WAY back
(1980-ish) ... And Now the Trees ... you could almost smell the
pretentiousness (if that's a word - I'm not sure). There another band
who's name was represented by a mere squiggle, but was pronounced "Freurr".

Ain't it funny though how we never remark on oddly named bands that became
popular (Flaming Lips, Pet Shop Boys, Sex Pistols, A Flock of Seagulls)?
The humour must be in the novelty value of the name, I guess.

Bob (np: The Weirdos - Solitary Confinement)
