When I saw the Crickets last summer(very cool show), Sonny sang it. He also claimed he wrote it in his intro. He went on to say he made more off those royalties than any of his other tunes, which including the above and "I Fought The Law," is quite an impressive repertoire. Here's the short list:

Rock Around W/Ollie Vee/Buddy Holly
Walk Right Back/Everly Bros.
More Than I Can Say/Bobby Vee/Leo Sayer
The Straight Life/Glen Campbell

Info from his web page states Sonny rejoined the Crickets just prior to Holly’s tragic death in a plane crash.

He also wrote and sang the theme song for the Mary Tyler Moore Show, “Love Is All Around.” Because of its positive message for working women in the early days of feminism, the song is not only one of television’s best-loved themes – it’s a cultural touchstone.
