No offense, Pat but while you can *understand* how tough the music
business(and there are few industries tougher right now, imho), you can't
*know* how tough it is like an artist who has devoted a few decades to its
pursuits and the constant sacrifices it brings to a family structure and
one's personal decisions. Just like I can't possibly *know* the *real*
struggles that go on in your profession, I can, though, empathize and begin
to understand, though. He's not giving up, 'chucking' his talent behind,
there are other things in life, especially after you've done something for
20+ years....i'm sure you just in a emotional moment above, but you are flat
out wrong about chucking talent about leaving this kid up for adoption. He's
a much, much bigger man to come to this decision with a 'to hell with my
talents, I'm done' sort of thinking.

I'll be talking to Doug later this week, so I don't have any official words
on this front to share, but I can tell you this getting to know him over the
last 7/8 y ears that Doug is supremely more talented in *many* areas outside
of music that it may be hard to folks to fathom he has very real, better
options to pursue outside of music (and he'd never say that in such a
manner, I must add). His decision to concentrate on other endeavors was
taken not just for what was best for his family(although, it certainly was)
but where he felt God wanted to him to be at this juncture in his life.
Doug is one of the most godly men I know...and he's all about doing what not
pleases Doug Powell but what is going to further God's plan for his life.

While i'm sure this will displease a few on this list to hear or at least
elicit a groan, he's become an expert, over the years, in Christian
apologetics, for example--- writing, publishing papers and working on a few
books. Many of you know, he's an very talented graphic artist, web designer
and Flash expert(I'm working on forgiving him on this front still,
though....just joking!!), as well. He's also a very devoted husband and
father so if music was chipping away at those priorities, there would be an
adjustment there.

There's just not enough support and big enough market for a guy like Doug
Powell to merit devoting "XX" amount of hours of a week when those hours,
especially after 20+ years of working in the music biz. Cold Fact: While
many people listen, have heard his music and have been, hopefully, enriched,
moved by his music, few *bought* it. And I know Doug is less bitter about
this than 99.5% of most musicians and certainly myself with my own
endeavors on the biz front. It's such an 'look-at-the-bright' attitude in
all things that is an inspiration for me seek out 'the plan' for my own life
right now, too . I have the sense Sir Powell will inspire me and others
more outside of creating music, at this at this time in his life.

On a much more brighter note, Doug and I will be talking this later this
week of pulling together an album of his last recorded trax of the last year
and Bsides, rarities, etc--which I've heard and they are, of course,
excellent! So there will be at least one more installment to add to the
Doug Powell discography...and music legacy.

Peace On,
Bruce
