We just finished a trip to Montreal, and were fortunate to have quite a
bit of quality time in the car to listen to some new acquisitions - 3
that arrived before we left and one that we picked up in Canada.
Rob Fetters' new CD "Musician" proved to be a consistent follow-up to
the Raisins/Bears/Psychodots guitarist's first solo CD. The songs tend
to be a bit whimsical, but pleasant nonetheless. Coolest moment was the
realization that he'd revived a chorus from an old Raisins song for one
of his new ones (something that he's done on other CDs).
The Churchills new CD "The Odds of Winning" is a soundscape that's a
little darker than their previous work, but is phenomenally well
recorded and mixed. My favorite tune is "I'm a sucker for a girl in
uniform".
The Montreal Pick-up was the new High Dials CD "War of the Wakening
Phantoms", a CD that hearkens back to the 60's, though a little less
"acid trippy" than their past work.
The real gem of the bunch, though, was Terramara's new CD "Four Blocks
to Hennepin." I loved their first CD, and this one is also stellar.
Their music hearkens memories of Steely Dan, CTA and Traffic - well
composed, arranged and produced. Though I reccomend all of the CDs,
this one is stand-out.
Ira
who just got The Smithereens 21 CD set and is mostly through disc 1 - wow!
