Hi Marty---
Welcome to the world of THEM!!
The first two albums (with Van), THEM and THEM AGAIN, came out originally on
the Parrot label (home of the Zombies) in the US. They are worth seeking
out for the cover photos alone. What a surly bunch, and from the Morrison
bios I've read, quite a handful!. If life wasn't exactly rosy for the
Animals in Newcastle, try to imagine being a rock and roll band in the early
60s of Belfast. Both records are completely enjoyable from start to finish.
In the 70s, the two albums were reissued in a double LP set with liner notes
by Lester Bangs.
On CD, there's a pretty good two-disc set that came out a few years ago. It
covers the Morrison years nicely.
After Morrison departed the band, it was decidedly hit-and-miss for Them,
sort of like the post--Stevie Winwood era Spencer Davis Group.
So if money is no object, I would comb the used record market and find the
original mono copies of the first two albums.
Happy listening! Steve
