Dave,
Being new to the Decemberists myself, I have to say
the new album Picaresque is fantastic start to finish.
The music is heartwrenching at times, yet I feel good
after hearing the album.
My favorite song off this new one is "The Mariner's Revenge
Song". 8:45 of pure classic stroytelling set to music.
To truly enjoy this album, I think one has to sit with
the lyric booklet and just let the music connect with you.
I went back to the earlier albums as well, and I
especially ejoy Castaways and Cutouts.
