Personally, I'm a big fan of Lindsey Buckingham, I think of him in a
group with Brian Wilson, Andy Partridge, and Todd Rundgren... if you
are interested in what I call Buckingham-era F-Mac, I'd say Tusk is
essential; quirky and spotty, but an overall great piece of work. The
recent reissue has a bonus disc of demos and outtakes which I think is
worth it just for the Beach Boys cover, "Farmer's Daughter."
After Tusk they put out Mirage ('82 or '83) and Tango In the Night
('87), the latter of which contained several songs pulled from an
aborted Lindsey solo album and on which he is the only performer ("Big
Love," "You and I.") Then the next album with Buckingham (and Nicks)
was the live The Dance in '97 (?), which is nice but not essential;
and Say You Will ('03) without Christine McVie.
I'd call Tusk essential, and the other 3 studio albums spotty but each
containing at least a couple of golden nuggets; I'd also recommend
Buckingham's solo records, especially 1992's Out of the Cradle.
