Which is all the more reason to make sure you're covered, just in case. I'm
willing to bet that at some point, ASCAP, BMI and, I guess, SESAC, will come
looking for their payday.

It's better to err on the side of caution here. I've heard some podcasters
clearly state during their shows that they're not playing any licensed music,
and that if by mistake something they play is licensed, they will remove it
from their casts immediately, which is the right thing to do if you're going
to put both of your feet in, methinks.
