Actually:

1. They were doing arena shows before they went on tour. They played the
Tweeter Center here in Boston, thanks to a lot of airplay on WXKS (KISS-108)
and a lot of buzz in the local teenage-girl community.

2. All of the members attended the Berklee School of Music (which is where
they met.)

3. The album features appearances by KISS frontman Paul Stanley (good catch,
Sherman! I think the marquee you saw in the video was actually on the school
-- Paul Stanley High) and Elliot Easton of The Cars.

4. Fountains of Wayne's Adam Schlesinger contributed two songs on the
album:'Just The Girl' and 'I'll Take My Chances.' The rest were written by...
The Click Five.

I personally have no problems with a power pop boy band. I'll definitely take
them over the alternatives (including their tour-mates). Say what you want
about their commercial appeal, but that Ashlee tour put them in front of
10,000 screaming teenage girls every night... many of whom bought the record.
And I can tell you that whatever you might think of their debut album, their
musical hearts, tastes and influences are definitely in what we here in
Audities-land would consider "the right place."
