I just love it when I go to a show and discover another band that makes me
go wow! ...... Friday I went the Peter Case show at Blue Cafe in Long
Beach. The evening started out with a double set from Eugene Edwards.
Totally enjoyed both sets. And ended with Peter Case. Peter Case's new
material is very blues base. I am not a big blues fan, a little blues goes
a long way with me. He did play a couple Plimsouls tune, Zero Hour and
Oldest Story in the World so that was pretty cool.

After Gene's set was my new discovery, Haymaker. This 4 piece band had
really catchy tunes and good harmonies....right up my alley. with a bit of
a country edge. I like the set enough to buy their cd. I liked the cd very
upbeat songs but I found it to be alot more country than the live show.
Here's reveiw form OC register:

Haymaker "Music From Ed's House" (Honey Bucket Records) Blending pop, roots
rock and country music, Haymaker's debut, "Music From Ed's House," is
crucial listening for fans of alternative country rock and local music.
"Morphine Pump" is a stomping pop nugget, boasting the propulsive feel of
the Proclaimers' 1993 hit "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)." Other songs are much
closer to the fusion of country and roots-rock displayed by artists such as
the BoDeans, Eagles and John Hiatt, particularly the infectious "Stand My
Ground," shimmering "Heather Lee" and driving "What's That Got to Do With
Me?" The group, which recorded at drummer Ed Heavener's home, also includes
bassist Lenny Grassa, and singer-songwriter-guitarists Mike Bay and J.W.
Surge.
