one hit wonders from the 80s abound - it's like
shooting ducks in a barrel. however, due to recent
radio revisionist history about what people actually
LISTENED TO in the 80s, I'm not sure how many of these
would qualify:

*icicle works (dang it, I wish Whisper to a Scream was
available on iTunes)
*bananarama (i suppose they had Venus AND Cruel
Summer)
*Falco
*Nena
*Thomas Dolby (science AND hyperactive? I remember the
video..)
*Gary Numan
*Rockwell
*Quarterflash
*Vanity/Apollonia 6/Mary Jane Girls (they all kind of
blend for me)
*Information Society
*Jan Hammer
*Patrice Rushen (Send You Forget Me Nots)
*AEIOU
* In the US, at least, Madness
*John Cafferty & Beaver Brown Band
*Dan Hartman
*John Waite
*Nik Kershaw (qualifies even though i personally LOVED
a ton of his songs, including 2 recent albums that
Letty made me buy - thanks, Letty!)

etc, etc, etc

In fact, I'm sure there are dozens that had one radio
hit, but who have legions of adoring fans ready to
jump to their defense about how great the rest of
their stuff was...but if we're talking mass memory
here, to the best of my recollection, the 80s were
ENTIRELY comprised of one hit wonders.

One interesting bunch are the folks whom i would have
classified as one-hitters at the time because of a
quirk of my age and limited knowledge, but whom, in
light of history and my gradual understanding of their
place in the 70s rock pantheon or otherwhere, I can no
longer relegate to one-hitter status. Like:
Michael McDonald
Herbie Hancock
Donna Summer
Melissa Manchester (i really really LOVED "you should
hear how she talks about you)
George Benson
any more of those you can think of? I also had no
idea who Steve Winwood had been when HE reemerged....
