Finished watching a tape of THE SHIELD (Glenn Close is amazing, although
she's getting pretty close to "boiling rabbit" territory) and flipped over
to see HIT ME BABY. Unfortunately missed The Knack doing "My Sharona" but
saw the rest. Pretty cheesy, from the stack of carefully selected girls at
the front of the stage to the must-have-been-provided-by-the-show audience
signs (one for each act with a bad pun on the hit song that they shouldn't
have known was scheduled to be played? Right...) and REALLY REALLY annoying
camera work during the performance. So was that to disguise the fact that
the bands weren't really playing? (If they were...sometimes it sure didn't
look like it).
Thought the Knack's take on Jet was a little weak; Tommy Tutone's Blink 182
cover was the highlight of the show for me. The Motels cover was awful. And
as to the finish - not that I'm THAT jaded - but did anyone else smell a
set-up? At least it's for charity.
Next week's lineup looks like a real yawner. But given the fact that you
pretty much admit you're a has-been just by being on the show, I don't
imagine we'll be seeing any major players on there anytime soon.
