'80s revisionism really does suck...particularly for those who grew up in
the '80s and remember a lot of these artists' follow-up singles almost as
fondly as their bigger hits, mostly because of their videos getting almost
as much airplay as the singles that preceded them:
> *Falco
I still love "Vienna Calling."
> *Information Society
Besides "What's On Your Mind (Pure Energy)," I remember "Walking Away" as
being pretty big...
> * In the US, at least, Madness
I absolutely LOVED "It Must Be Love."
> *John Cafferty & Beaver Brown Band
Maybe my memory's failing me here, but I think "On The Dark Side" and
"Tender Years" were equally big hits...
> *John Waite
Obviously, everyone knows "Missing You," but it was the video for "Change,"
where a woman's on a ledge and Waite's playing a reporter (I think), that I
remember far more fondly. I also remember the video for "These Times Are
Hard For Lovers," but I might be the only one; I don't recall that it was a
very big hit...
> *Rockwell
This is probably my biggest '80s pet peeve: no-one ever seems to remember
"Obscene Phone Caller." No, it didn't have Michael Jackson singing back-up,
but it was still a damned catchy song. I don't know if anyone else ever had
Rockwell's "Somebody's Watching Me," but he also did a serviceable cover of
the Beatles' "Taxman," which I probably heard before the original ever
passed my way...
