why is anyone surprised at the stupidity of modern radio? I've been
around radio since the late '60s. After a point, it was sold out and
taken over by people who do not like music. Do you know how many people
I knew who's background was statistics! Or the lame ass sales manager
who took over and got rid of all the "trouble makers" (creative music folk)
Since '81 I've been doing free form radio up here on the college
station, Kglt. We are the number 2 rated station in the market, with
only the NPR outlet beating us...all the Clearchannel and Reier stations
are on the slide, and will eventually become totally automated or
satellite feed. I hear that a new frequency is going to be added in the
valley, but I don't see it being able to make much of a dent. There is
no good radio talent on the commercial stations, and they can't really
pay enough for someone to come from a major market and do the crappy format.
Like the rest of the "industry" those jokers are panicked, and hopefully
will be jumping out the window soon.
I know there are a few good djs in the world, and a lot of them hang out
here. I'm just surprised how many noncommercial stations really aren't
any better. I research programming when I determine who I might send
promos to. Any sort of rock seems to be hidden late at night where it
can't offend the supporters.... Here in Boze it's music all day and
night. You get a show and play what you like. Some people seem
determined to limit their play lists to one genre, but there are plenty
of djs who have an open mind.... I just have 25,000 records of my own to
choose from ;^}
don't despair, just turn the dial...
