I consider those Motown Singles box sets a bargan, when you consider
that UK Northern Soul and R&B record collectors shell out over $1000 and
much much more for these rare 45's. A copy of Frank Wilson's super-rare
"Do I Love You (Indeed I Do) went for £15,000 in 1996.

The new Cameo-Parkway box from Abako has a list price for $59.99 though
many places are selling it around $55-to-49.00 - for a short time. Its
not unusal that "deluxe" box sets have a 20-25 dollar per CD price. I'm
tired of the cheap shoddy jobs most companies do on thier 50's-70's
reissues, I'll pay a little more for excellent remastering from the best
available tapes, a good collecton of rare/classic tracks and a lengthy
biography, chart placing, and disography.

Universal does own their own masters, but they do have to pay if they
used a outside remastering engineer like Bill Inglot. And the liner
notes for these Motown Singles box sets are like buying a book along
with the CD's.

Billy
