I suppose Elfman is doing the music for the latest Tim Burton film: the remake of Willie Wonka & The Chocolate Factory?
I enjoy Jon Brion's film work, the latest being Huckabees.
One interesting use of a song in film occurred during Cameron Crowe's Vanilla Sky. In the "strangling scene" towards the end Todd Rundgren's "Can We Still Be Friends" is playing. Then the scene changes and the song abruptly stops. If you know the song you're left with the next few lines echoing in your head: "we awoke from our dream, things are not always as they seem...", quite a clue to the remainder of the show.

I knew I was forgetting a few names. I'd cite Howard Shore as a good one
too.
