The Contrast is the band that "broke" it lyrically for me.
Rainbow Quartz band, a label I more or less buy from on spec. Did just
that concerning The Contrast. Read their bio, looked to be a pretty
groovy, proto-mod, Rickenbacker laden band. I was pretty psyched to
hear something by them. Bought their stuff, like I said, on spec.
Threw on their first one. Opening chords were excellent, then, then the
lyrics began ... oh my. Their writing goes beyond yr average, everyday
boring/cliche/moon/spoon/Joon kinda stuff ...this is just plain DUMB.
But, yet. In the background -thankfully, at times, the forefront- is
some of the most excellent 12 string jangle and Welleresque/Townsendian
power chording you could ever imagine. Damn fine rhythm section too.
It's sad. I love their music and really want to dig the band wholly
but their lyrical content and vocal delivery is so damn annoying.
