<< Beatles vs. The Stones: Although the Stones once sang "Street Fighting
Man,"
Mr. Blue claimed that the Liverpudlians would make mincemeat out of the
London boys. John was no stranger to punchouts in Liverpool and Hamburg and
George once showed up for a photo op sporting quite a shiner. >>
I believe the Quiet, possibly most nonviolent Beatle
was simply suckerpunched in the Cavern
by an irate Pete Best fan,
tho Johnny Rhythm WAS quite the amateur pugilist in his daze round the 'Pool
.....even was known to throw his fair share of punches as recently as his
Lost Weekend in El Lay
(tho he was still no match even back then for Phil Spector !!)
<< Beach Boys vs. The Four Seasons: Buddy wrote that the SoCal boys would be
no
match for the Jersey Boys, the latter containing members that did some
serious jail time. >>
Don't anyone sell those Hawthorne Hotshots short, however:
I recall attending a free BBoys show in the early Eighties on the Queen Mary
in Long
Beach I believe it was (Jeff? Correct??) which was being simulcast for radio
broadcast.
During each commercial break as the band paused, some irate audience member a
few feet in front of me kept yelling really disparaging remarks towards none
other than Dennis "The Menace" Wilson.
Bad move. Coz during one break, Dennis calmly climbed out from behind his
kit, jumped off the stage front, walked over to the front row, beckoned his
heckler forward, and proceeded to knock the offender's facial lights dead out with
one expert blow.
Meanwhile, Mike Love Not War drily announced over the PA, "excuse me, but
could we kindly ask our drummer to get back on stage? Thank You."
Gary "PS: and THEN there was the time DW beat up RXHeyman's original
Doughboys as they concluded their circa-'66 BBoys-opening set ...something about a
borrowed floor tom and an excessively percussive rendition of "Bo Diddley" Pig
