Someone (Stacey?) asked about the Jim Boggia show in NYC last night.
Gotta say...very good show. Largely straight-out power pop, well played and sung. Traces of Bleu, Owsley, Elliot Smith, even Badly Drawn Boy. Many catchy tunes. And the venue - Joe's Pub - is an excellent, particularly civilized place to see a band. It's not too crowded, you can sit at a table, have a great view, the sound is good, table service w/ food available...all in all makes for an improved experience. (I'm old, and just don't love crowded, SRO shows so much anymore.)
Not to be too harsh - as I liked the show and will probably pick up the cd - but Jim Boggia still strikes me as kind of a second-tier popster. Not quite up there yet with my faves, e.g. a "poor man's" Bleu or whatnot. Still, I would definitely recommend seeing him.
