You can search without being a member. http://www.emusic.com/browse/all.html

I think the best way I've found to search if by knowing the labels you
are most interested in and searching that way. Unfortunately I've
found that esp in the powerpop type of acts, many many artists are not
classified by genre, and searching each band by name is time consuming
and I always draw blanks. But I can usually think of a couple good
labels I like and can go from there.

I joined as a member (customer) in December 04 or so, and I thought
yeah, this is a good site, they have some good stuff, I'll be able to
find 40 tracks per month, but I won't need to upgrade. Now, a few
months after working there, I don't think my insane number of employee
tracks per month is enough. Every day I find new stuff that I am SO
EXCITED about.
