Ray Davies: "The Stones took Route 66, the Kinks took the M4 Motorway"...which pretty much sums it up. "Too English" for US and world domination. 

As an anglophile, though, I can't help but worship the Kinks, and I've seen them many times.
I once even had a brief chat and shook the hand of Raymond Douglas Davies. A true gentleman.

Reminds me of another great quote from Davies. Refering to Jagger, "He's obviously the greatest performer to ever emerge from Britain. (pause)Except for myself."

Schoolboys in Disgrace is a criminally over-looked album.
