I'd be curious for a thumbnail sketch of what stories
are told about Mono Man. When The Lyres played
Carbondale, I got the gig to take him to the station
for an interview. We gabbed a bit at the club, and he
asked if we could swing by his hotel on the way to the
station, because he had picked up all these 45s in
Europe and hadn't played them yet. That was a no
brainer. So it was a combo interview/Jeff as DJ -- he
played some cool stuff, including The Gollywogs and
Link Wray trying to ape the Beatles (with Link billed
under an alias). After we got back to the club, I was
Jeff's best friend for the rest of the night and he'd
keep coming up to me and gabbing, more wasted each
time. Great show too.
