all the 80s canadian aor/metal-ish stuff is super popular
in Germany. When I was working at Warner Canada in the late 80s,
the head of Germany's Teldec Import Service came in and got very
emotional in that he wanted all kinds of canadian stuff and there was all
this inter label politics (the Canadian label was just NOT used to anyone
in another country wanting Canadian acts and not just cheap canadian
pressing exports of
US stuff) so I helped clear the red tape so he could get Ian Thomas, etc...

I asked why they liked Canadian stuff and he said it was because it
was very melodic
and had great vocal harmonies! Over the years, the German fascination
with Canadian
aor and prog has helped people like Saga, Ian Thomas (as The
Boomers), and all sorts of
acts who can't get arrested in canada but have cd re-issues in Germany....

When I toured Germany with Honeymoon Suite (opening for... Saga!), I
was able to really see this phenomenon
in action and also discovered that Italian and French artists are
super huge in Germany as well and it's because
of the strong melodies....

any of the great aor and glam metal tracks are intrinsically awesome
pop songs at their core...
