See, now THIS is the way to write a business farewell. I'll hunt
around on the net to see if I can find a similar missive from the
owner of Avenue Victor Hugo, a longterm bookstore fixture on Newbury
Street in Boston that closed last summer. This gist of his was "We're
closing and it's all your fault! You people suck!" No, dear heart,
surely it had nothing at all to do with the fact that there was not a
single book in your store published after about 1988, nor that
whenever I went into your shop looking for something in particular,
you never had it. (An antiquarian bookstore without *any* Wodehouse,
not even a couple dog-eared paperbacks?) It's a shame to lose another
record store, but at least it's going out with style.
