I had a great night tonight. A friend ended up having an extra ticket
to the sold out Ivy show at the Bowery Ballroom, so I got to go.

Now, Ivy put on a great show. I was curious to hear what they sounded
like live because their albums sound like something you could really
only get in a studio. I wasn't sure how they could replicate that
sound. Well, it turns out they could certainly interpret it! The live
version was a lot more guitar oriented and sounded a lot more
"powerpop" than their albums. I don't think calling their albums
powerpop would even be a proper acessment, but the live show, yes
indeed. They played my favorite song "This is the Day" 2nd. I must
have listened to that song at least 15 times today! No horn section,
though they did have a keyboardist to do the horn parts, along with
some "buh dee dee duhs" in the vocals. Not bad at all. With the new
album being out, I thought that the show would have tons of new stuff,
but actually, they played enough old stuff to keep me satisfied while
enough new stuff to make me intrigued. They even played their Edwyn
Collins cover from Guestroom. They also played 2 encores - the last
song being the first song they ever wrote. I thought that was a neat
way to end the show. At one point, the singer seemed to have some
trouble with her monitor and was off key for a bit. I felt bad for
her! But she handled it really well and got back into it. I know
that sometimes tech stuff doesn't work out perfectly, and its all in
how you handle yourself. She certainly did alright, and it worked out
fine. All in all, fantastic show, I was so glad to have gone.

Some funny side notes, this morning when I got dressed, I was pretty
much running out of clothes and put on my FOW tshirt, not even
thinking that I was seeing Ivy, Adam is in Ivy, Adam is in FOW.... So
I kept my jacket zipped up during the whole show. :) I don't want to
be That Girl! Don't be That Girl! But I don't know if band member's
other projects counts as being That Girl or if it is acceptable or
even cool.

Also, a neat thing, I ran into Mike Viola at the show! It was nice to
see him again as well.

Did anyone else from the list go to the show? If Ivy is coming to a
town near you, I would definately recommend checking them out.

Stacy
